That hole needs patching in your Sheetrock. That hill needs weed eating. Those walls could use a fresh coat of paint. Can’t clean those cobwebs in your house anymore. Let us know so we can help! Many of us find ourselves needing help with home projects and Higgins is offering to help with these needs through “Construction Love” and simply just helping to clean your house or hang a picture. There will be HOME PROJECT BOXES placed in the Sanctuary and Family Life Center. When you have a need, fill out the card provided with your contact information and a brief description of the project and place it into the box. Someone will reach out to you. Heads up Higgins family! We’ll be asking for volunteers as needs arise. This will be an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ. Come fellowship, and share your gifts to bless others. Many thanks! Donna Woodie

It's that time of year again when we have an opportunity to transform a child's life through Compassion sponsorship. David Cort has been our local spokesperson for Compassion for many years. Thanks to his dedication and effort, several families and groups within our congregation are sponsoring children. This year we have added four new sponsors from our church family. You guys are amazing! We give a big shout out of thanks for all who are faithfully sponsoring a child. Know you are making a difference in the life of a child, and the world.
We would love for you to join us in making water filter kits in Boone on Wednesday, June 17th at 11am. We will meet at Higgins upper parking lot, leaving at 9:30am so we can be in Boone ready to build water kits at 11:00. After working for a couple of hours, we'll head out at 1:00pm to grab lunch and share a meal together. This would be a fun event for both adults and students.
Meal Packaging Events: Join us at Higgins Methodist as we host an event where volunteers assemble, package, and box nutrient-dense meals (rice, soy, vegetables, and vitamins) to be shipped worldwide to areas where people are facing food insecurity. Rise Against Hunger is an international hunger relief non-profit organization founded in 1998 that coordinates the packaging and distribution of food and aid to crisis-affected and underserved communities worldwide. They mobilize volunteers to package nutritious meals and support sustainable agricultural projects to achieve global food security and zero hunger. We hope you'll mark the date on your calendar and join us for some fun as we pack meals to feed others around the globe. Night to Shine is a complimentary event, sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation, for people with special needs hosted by local churches around the world. The event is open to anyone living with disabilities, ages 14 and older. Activities included a red carpet entrance complete with a warm welcome from a friendly crowd and paparazzi, hair and makeup stations, shoeshines, limousine rides, karaoke, gifts, a catered dinner, a Sensory Room, a Respite Room for parents and caregivers, dancing, and a crowning ceremony where every guest is honored as a King or a Queen - the way God sees them each and every day. Higgins helped to support a Night to Shine held on February 13, 2026 at Mars Hill University in collaboration with Beech Glen Baptist Church. Look at our friends shine! Everyone had a wonderful time. Thanks to all our volunteers who worked at the event and behind the scenes to make this night a success. We at Higgins have a wonderful opportunity to support a missionary here in the United States that grew up just down the road in Gastonia. He played football with Cole Shehan at Wingate University. Jaheim did not know Christ at that time. After graduation, he transferred to Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas. It was there that he met a young man who changed his life. I'll stop at that and let him tell you his story himself in the video linked below. After completing his time in Texas, Jaheim joined Campus Outreach and moved to the Chicago area where he disciples to students, bringing them to Christ. He then teaches these students how to disciple to other students. As part of Campus Outreach, he is responsible for raising funds to cover his work. The funds go directly to Campus Outreach under Jaheim's name. Due to his background, he does not have the support of a faith family backing him. He remembered his Christian friends from the universities he attended and reached out to them, in hopes of finding faith families to connect with that would help to support him through prayers and financial assistance. After reaching out to Cole, Cole contacted Amy in hopes of his home church of Higgins helping to support Jaheim. Amy was inspired by his story, as I'm sure you will be also. We ask that above all, you will keep Jaheim and his work in your prayers. If you feel called to help him financially there is a link below where you can send support in his name. This can be a one-time or monthly donation. For those of you who have young people in your life, or know of others that might be inspired by his story, please share this link to his video. One never knows when a simple gesture could change someone's life forever. Okay, so it was the 4th Sunday this month. Remember, however, after this it will be each 3rd Sunday starting in May. We will gather in the dinning hall of Yancey House at 10am to sing familiar old hymns with the residents and to hear words of Biblical encouragement. It was such a blessing to belt out old hymns with old and new friends. No one cared if they could carry a tune or not. We all just had fun worshiping. Higgins Missions Committee is partnering with High Country Caregivers (HCC) in a few exciting ways we will be sharing with you soon. HCC is a non-profit that offers comprehensive whole-family care to empower kinship caregivers who take on the responsibility of caring for, or raising, the child of a relative or close friend. Check out the link below to watch two excellent videos (short) showing what this organization does, what it has meant to some of their clients, and the impact HCC had on the life of one of the children. Watch for opportunities coming soon on how you can get involved in helping out caregivers and their families in our area.
Here at Higgins, we are actively involved in mission work within the community and around the world. Our three-fold focus is on sharing the gospel, serving to meet the needs of others, and building connections. There are many ways you can get involved. Some opportunities may tug at your heart to get involved by participating in a project. Other times, you may feel you could better serve the mission through your prayers or a donation. All levels of involvement are important and very much needed. Our hope is that we will see you out in the field soon, involved in one or more of the upcoming opportunities.
